Should I have my carpets professionally cleaned ? | TMG Companies

Cheap carpet cleaning machines don’t have adequate suction and most people who rent them use the machine properly to effectively clean your rugs. Using too much soap leaves a sticky soapy residue in the carpet and it gets dirty much faster because of it, or worse can leave the carpet too wet. So, in the end, you will end up using the machine a lot more than you ever wanted to!

Should I have my carpets professionally cleaned or would a rented carpet cleaner be sufficient?

Those rented machines have to be transported from the store into your car and then to your home. These machines can be extremely heavy so carry with caution. Did you know that for the amount you spend on the machine, the time it takes to get the machine and bring it back, it would probably cost about the same to have your carpets cleaned by TMG Companies. Plus you don't have to worry about breaking the machine and having to replace it.

We know the difference because we hear it again and again from satisfied customers! The difference is not debatable between a rented machine and what a professional’s carpet cleaner can do. Remember our professional carpet cleaning machines are fully maintained and serviced to make them strong and efficient. Our technicians have been thoroughly trained on how to effectively use the machines and how to properly clean your carpets. Your carpets will smell and look brand new. It will take a fraction of the time it would have taken for you to lug that machine and take the day cleaning your carpets for a pro to come in and do it.  You’ll save hours and take it off your to-do list.

Next up, searching for carpet cleaning company near me?  Follow this advice:

  • Read Google reviews in your area to find highly rated carpet cleaners
  • Call them and make sure to ask for pricing for carpet cleaning. Ask them if there are extras – make sure to talk to a real “live” person
  • Ask if they stand by their service
  • Are they certified?

Hire a Local Carpet Cleaning Company

Shop Local! Big box stores and national chains have ads everywhere! You see them on tv, the happy couple admires the carpet that was covered in mud or the dog that ruined the carpet and now lays happily on the freshly cleaned one. These companies spend a huge amount of money on advertising and are relying on quotas from the service technicians. Those technicians are trying to upsell you with extras that you may not need. So, unfortunately, you get a better salesman than a cleaning expert.

TMG Is Not Just A Cleaning Company Anymore

TMG Is Not Just A Cleaning Company Anymore

  1. Why did you want to start a business?

I’ve always had a strong work ethic. I worked for my parents’ company growing up, and it wasn’t easy. It was shoveling driveways and working long days after school when I was young. My father struggled with addiction and went through rehab. It was difficult at times, but I always wanted my own business. I just had to determine what that business was going to be.

I was inspired one day, called a friend that was able to be of tremendous help, came up with TMG in 24 hours and had someone make a logo. I had an early opportunity with post-construction cleaning and started there. Through word of mouth and a few opportunities, I branched out and began commercial janitorial services and was able to leave the HVAC industry and focus on TMG full-time.

At the time, I had some great mentors that provided guidance. Jon Duncklee taught me how to network and create opportunities. My father encouraged me to contact Teen Challenge when I needed to start hiring staff; they provide opportunities and connect employers and recovering addicts seeking employment in the community.

  1. What year did you start?

It was June 2016. The entire company was created in 24 hours.

  1. Who has helped you get to where you are?

John Duncklee, friend and professional mentor, pushes and holds me to a higher standard. Chris Calkins helped me form and start the business and provided back end support. Demi Penaloza was a shop mom. She took care of staff and aided with operations. Paul Lynn’s partnership provided the expansion opportunity that has brought a new level. Habble Gaffers Virtual Assistants relieve day-to-day stress by handling back end operations and human resources. Teen Challenge for staffing and helping good, fine people and giving them a second chance at life.

  1. You have recently expanded services; why?

TMG was given an opportunity to branch into demolition and to work with Paul Lynn. The collaboration and partnership with Paul provided an avenue to broaden the scope of services that TMG provides as a company. Renovations at the Coast Guard Academy afforded more opportunities that we were able to take advantage of. This eventually evolved to include property maintenance and repairs, demolition, and renovations.

How did you gain the construction knowledge?

Working in the field. I learn something new every day – especially from Paul.

  1. You recently sponsored a gala event. What does this mean to you?

The gala proceeds benefitted addiction rehabilitation services for the community. This all goes back to Teen Challenge and my own experience of being exposed to my father’s addiction during my childhood. These programs are doing great things, and I wanted to give back to the community.

  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Water Damage Insurance Claim Tips

Water Damage Insurance Claim Tips

Water damage is a big deal. It can really compromise the market value of your property and even put the health and safety of your family at risk if not fixed or cleaned up properly because this area could be providing the right conditions for mold and mildew growth.

No matter what caused the pipe burst, the required cleanup and repairs can be very expensive. If you are going to put in a water damage claim to the insurance company, you better do it right.

OUR TIPS

You want to make sure you have all the bases covered when filing the claim, so please take a look at some of our water damage insurance claim tips.

  1. The damage to your property and contents should be thoroughly documented at each stage with photos of the loss: before the process of water mitigation, during the process and after our work is completed. You could hire professionals who are trained to prepare sketches and create drying logs for your insurance company, or just ask the restoration company what information you will need to provide. This will help your claim to be processed quickly and accurately.
  2. If your professional service company deals directly with insurance companies, they may be able to send estimates and bills themselves. That would be one less thing for you to worry about.
  3. Please review your insurance policy to ensure that you understand what it covers and what it doesn't cover in terms of water related damages. There is a chance that not all water damage will be covered by your policy.
  4. Sometimes insurance carriers are unwilling to cover all the water mitigation and extraction work required to prevent or remove mold growth in a home affected by water damage which not only causes financial damage but also poses a genuine health risk. These are very serious consequences that should be dealt with immediately. If your insurance company is hesitating to pay you for a water damage, you can hire a public adjuster to advocate for you and for the reasonable expenses of the restoration.
  5. Hiring a public adjuster is a good idea anyway. The adjuster who works for the insurance company represents their interests, not yours. They usually try to minimize the settlement amount to save the insurance carrier some money. This can result in a smaller payout on your claim.

What To Do After A Fire | TMG Companies

Call your insurance company immediately after a fire. Following ironing the details with your insurance company, contact TMG Companies so the fire damage cleanup process can begin quickly. If you're not sure that the home is structurally safe, have it inspected by a certified structural engineer or building inspector before going near.

  • Make arrangements to board-up broken windows and secure the property during the cleanup and restoration process.
  • Shut off propane tank systems and make an appointment for it to be inspected for safety.
  • Do not attempt to reconnect utilities on your own.
  • Be aware that rodents, snakes, or other animals may have entered your home.

Inside the home:

  • Don't flip on electrical switches in any room with standing water from firefighting efforts.
  • Don't enter any room if you hear popping or see sparking.
  • Turn off the power at the main electrical panel.

  • Wear closed-toe shoes or boots, long sleeves, long pants and gloves to protect against soot and any other contaminants as you go through the home.
  • Try to locate important papers and other documents that you'll need.
  • Handle burned money as little as possible. You can take its remains to a Regional Federal Reserve Bank for replacement.

HALLOWEEN FIRE SAFETY TIPS | TMG Companies

HALLOWEEN FIRE SAFETY TIPS | TMG Companies

HALLOWEEN SAFETY: DECORATIONS

Use these tips to help prevent your Halloween decorations from catching fire:

Pumpkin Safety

The traditional jack-o-lantern features a smiling or spooky face that’s illuminated from within by a candle. Placing candles inside a cleaned-out pumpkin is a fire hazard. In fact, any lit candle left unattended is a Halloween fire hazard. If they’re inside pumpkins, they can tip over, ignite surrounding materials and cause a fire. To stay safe, use a battery-operated candle or LED light to illuminate your festive pumpkins.

Candle Safety

Using paper bag luminaries or lining a mantle, porch stairs or windowsills with lit candles can create an eerie effect for Halloween night. However, this type of decorating is a fire hazard and poses a risk of injury to you and your guests. To help prevent a fire from decorative candles, replace them with battery-operated, no-flame candles that still provide the same spooky ambiance.

Decoration Safety

Some decorations, both inside and outside of your home, can be dangerous if left near a heat source. Straw, hay bales, corn stalks and other dry materials are flammable. To protect your home from a fire, keep these decorations away from any kind of heat source, including fireplaces, wood-burning stoves, candles and outdoor fire pits.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY: YARD MAINTENANCE

Halloween has the potential to bring plenty of residents through your lawn. To help keep trick-or-treaters and their parents safe, check that your yard is properly maintained and has adequate lighting. Before night falls, complete these tasks:

  • Remove large amounts of debris, including leaves or sticks, to help reduce the risk of trips and falls.
  • Check that the exterior lights are working properly, including any path lights or Halloween decorations.
  • Ensure that steps and railing are secure, if necessary.

By following these tips, you can help keep everyone safe. We hope you have a happy and fun Halloween this year!

Unfortunately, accidents still happen. In the event that a fire broke out in your home, call on the experts at ServiceMaster Restore. We’re available 24/7 every day of the year to get your home back to normal after a disaster. With the proper expertise, tools and innovative equipment, we can restore your home fast. Home Fire Safety Tips | TMG Companies

Home Fire Safety Tips | TMG Companies

A strong home fire safety plan can improve your family's chances of escaping a fire safely and, in some cases, it may help you avoid one altogether. Learn three top ways to practice fire safety in the home from the experts at ServiceMaster Restore.

Home Fire Prevention

  • Keep flammable materials away from heat sources. If you're using a portable space heater, keep it at least 3 feet away from flammable objects like furniture, blankets, electronics and anything combustible.
  • Don't leave flames or smoking materials unattended, including fireplaces, stovetops, candles and cigarettes. Avoid smoking indoors, and never smoke in bed.
  • Fix or replace frayed electrical cords or wires.
  • Don't overload wall outlets or extension cords.
  • Have your furnace or home heating source periodically inspected and kept in good working order.
  • Make sure everyone in the household understands the importance of home fire safety and observes fire-safe habits, including your kids.

Home Fire Safety Equipment

A good home fire safety plan includes having the right supplies and safety equipment on hand. These tools will be your first line of defense in the event of a fire, and they can dramatically improve your ability to react effectively.

  • Install smoke detectors on every floor of your home, in every bedroom, and outside each sleeping area.
  • Inspect and maintain your smoke detectors
  • A fire extinguisher can keep small, containable fires from growing out of control. Have an extinguisher handy whenever you use cooking or heating equipment.
  • Learn how to use a fire extinguisher
  • Consider installing an automatic sprinkler system in your home.

Fire Safety Planning

During an emergency, reaction time is critical. Beyond the equipment you need, everyone in your household should know what to do if a fire starts. Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Create a fire safety plan that establishes at least two escape routes and a safe location away from the home where everyone can meet.
  • Make an emergency communications plan to stay in contact during and after a fire.
  • Practice your escape plan twice a year so everyone can act quickly when it counts.
  • Teach children how and when to call 9-1-1.

Don't let a fire catch you or your family off guard. The right preparations and an effective home fire safety plan can mitigate the risk of injury or damage during a residential fire or help prevent a fire emergency altogether. If disaster does strike, your family's safety is of primary importance. Use our home fire safety tips to stay out of harm's way.

Dust or Vacuum First? | TMG Companies

Dust or Vacuum First? | TMG Companies

Even when you are using the best duster, a few particles of dust are going to escape as you work. The dust that flies into the air will eventually settle at a lower point. Usually, that's the floor. That offers you a second chance to remove it from the room when you vacuum. Dusting first is particularly important if it has been some time since you dusted. The duster will become filled with particles and large clumps of dust will drop to the floor.

The Best Cleaning Order for Any Room

Remove the Clutter

It is nearly impossible to dust or vacuum effectively or efficiently if you are having to dodge around stacks of paper, toys, piles of laundry, or too many knick-knacks. Start at one side of the room and work your way around gathering items that are out of place. Keep a trash bag handy for items that need to be tossed and a basket or box for things that belong in another room.

Start at the Top

By working from the top of the room, you can slowly bring down the dust and cobwebs. Start with dusting hard-to-reach ceiling fans, light fixtures, corners, and the tops of tall furniture. Move down to mantles, tabletops, windowsills, baseboards, and furniture legs. You may need to do more than just dust; some surfaces will need to be cleaned more thoroughly with an appropriate cleaner. Continue to work down the room wiping and dusting every surface until you reach the floor.

To capture the most dust:

  • Use the vacuum's soft upholstery brush attachment and hose to vacuum the ceiling and then the walls—then use it on your upholstered furniture.
  • Use an electrostatic duster or slightly dampened microfiber cloth to clean surfaces.
  • If you can, wait at least 15 minutes after dusting before vacuuming the room. This gives the dust particles in the air time to settle on the floor.

Vacuum the Floor

Now that all the dust has settled on the floor, it's time to vacuum. To get the best results when you vacuum, be sure all of the clutter is off the floor. Move as much of the furniture as you can away from the walls, so you can reach the corners and the floor underneath.

Depending on the type of flooring, adjust the vacuum settings. When vacuuming a carpet, make sure the beater bar or roller brush is making contact with the surface of the fibers.

Start along one side of the room. If you have wall-to-wall carpeting, use the crevice tool to clean between the carpet and the baseboards. Work in a grid pattern using long, smooth strokes down the path of the wall. Overlap the passes slightly and continue to the opposite wall. Now, do a 90-degree turn and repeat the process. Vacuuming the area twice will capture the most soil.

Tips to Reduce Dust in Your Home

  • Keep windows and doors closed.
  • Change HVAC air filters frequently.
  • Change bedding and wash it at least weekly.
  • Remove clutter and dust trappers like faux plants, fuzzy throws, and shag carpets.
  • Add an air purifier.
  • Bathe pets frequently.
