Should I have my carpets professionally cleaned ? | TMG Companies

Should I have my carpets professionally cleaned ? | TMG Companies

Cheap carpet cleaning machines don’t have adequate suction and most people who rent them use the machine properly to effectively clean your rugs. Using too much soap leaves a sticky soapy residue in the carpet and it gets dirty much faster because of it, or worse can leave the carpet too wet. So, in the end, you will end up using the machine a lot more than you ever wanted to!

Should I have my carpets professionally cleaned or would a rented carpet cleaner be sufficient?

Those rented machines have to be transported from the store into your car and then to your home. These machines can be extremely heavy so carry with caution. Did you know that for the amount you spend on the machine, the time it takes to get the machine and bring it back, it would probably cost about the same to have your carpets cleaned by TMG Companies. Plus you don't have to worry about breaking the machine and having to replace it.

We know the difference because we hear it again and again from satisfied customers! The difference is not debatable between a rented machine and what a professional’s carpet cleaner can do. Remember our professional carpet cleaning machines are fully maintained and serviced to make them strong and efficient. Our technicians have been thoroughly trained on how to effectively use the machines and how to properly clean your carpets. Your carpets will smell and look brand new. It will take a fraction of the time it would have taken for you to lug that machine and take the day cleaning your carpets for a pro to come in and do it.  You’ll save hours and take it off your to-do list.

Next up, searching for carpet cleaning company near me?  Follow this advice:

  • Read Google reviews in your area to find highly rated carpet cleaners
  • Call them and make sure to ask for pricing for carpet cleaning. Ask them if there are extras – make sure to talk to a real “live” person
  • Ask if they stand by their service
  • Are they certified?

Hire a Local Carpet Cleaning Company

Shop Local! Big box stores and national chains have ads everywhere! You see them on tv, the happy couple admires the carpet that was covered in mud or the dog that ruined the carpet and now lays happily on the freshly cleaned one. These companies spend a huge amount of money on advertising and are relying on quotas from the service technicians. Those technicians are trying to upsell you with extras that you may not need. So, unfortunately, you get a better salesman than a cleaning expert.

TMG Is Not Just A Cleaning Company Anymore

TMG Is Not Just A Cleaning Company Anymore

  1. Why did you want to start a business?

I’ve always had a strong work ethic. I worked for my parents’ company growing up, and it wasn’t easy. It was shoveling driveways and working long days after school when I was young. My father struggled with addiction and went through rehab. It was difficult at times, but I always wanted my own business. I just had to determine what that business was going to be.

I was inspired one day, called a friend that was able to be of tremendous help, came up with TMG in 24 hours and had someone make a logo. I had an early opportunity with post-construction cleaning and started there. Through word of mouth and a few opportunities, I branched out and began commercial janitorial services and was able to leave the HVAC industry and focus on TMG full-time.

At the time, I had some great mentors that provided guidance. Jon Duncklee taught me how to network and create opportunities. My father encouraged me to contact Teen Challenge when I needed to start hiring staff; they provide opportunities and connect employers and recovering addicts seeking employment in the community.

  1. What year did you start?

It was June 2016. The entire company was created in 24 hours.

  1. Who has helped you get to where you are?

John Duncklee, friend and professional mentor, pushes and holds me to a higher standard. Chris Calkins helped me form and start the business and provided back end support. Demi Penaloza was a shop mom. She took care of staff and aided with operations. Paul Lynn’s partnership provided the expansion opportunity that has brought a new level. Habble Gaffers Virtual Assistants relieve day-to-day stress by handling back end operations and human resources. Teen Challenge for staffing and helping good, fine people and giving them a second chance at life.

  1. You have recently expanded services; why?

TMG was given an opportunity to branch into demolition and to work with Paul Lynn. The collaboration and partnership with Paul provided an avenue to broaden the scope of services that TMG provides as a company. Renovations at the Coast Guard Academy afforded more opportunities that we were able to take advantage of. This eventually evolved to include property maintenance and repairs, demolition, and renovations.

How did you gain the construction knowledge?

Working in the field. I learn something new every day – especially from Paul.

  1. You recently sponsored a gala event. What does this mean to you?

The gala proceeds benefitted addiction rehabilitation services for the community. This all goes back to Teen Challenge and my own experience of being exposed to my father’s addiction during my childhood. These programs are doing great things, and I wanted to give back to the community.

While you can always call TMG Companies to make your facility or property germ free, it's good to know necessary steps you can take to assist in stopping the spreading of the disease.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Take steps to protect yourself

If you are not able to wear a facemask (for example, because it causes trouble breathing), then you should do your best to cover your coughs and sneezes, and people who are caring for you should wear a facemask if they enter your room. Learn what to do if you are sick.
  • If you are NOT sick: You do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring for someone who is sick (and they are not able to wear a facemask). Facemasks may be in short supply and they should be saved for caregivers.

Water Damage Insurance Claim Tips

Water Damage Insurance Claim Tips

Water damage is a big deal. It can really compromise the market value of your property and even put the health and safety of your family at risk if not fixed or cleaned up properly because this area could be providing the right conditions for mold and mildew growth.

No matter what caused the pipe burst, the required cleanup and repairs can be very expensive. If you are going to put in a water damage claim to the insurance company, you better do it right.

OUR TIPS

You want to make sure you have all the bases covered when filing the claim, so please take a look at some of our water damage insurance claim tips.

  1. The damage to your property and contents should be thoroughly documented at each stage with photos of the loss: before the process of water mitigation, during the process and after our work is completed. You could hire professionals who are trained to prepare sketches and create drying logs for your insurance company, or just ask the restoration company what information you will need to provide. This will help your claim to be processed quickly and accurately.
  2. If your professional service company deals directly with insurance companies, they may be able to send estimates and bills themselves. That would be one less thing for you to worry about.
  3. Please review your insurance policy to ensure that you understand what it covers and what it doesn't cover in terms of water related damages. There is a chance that not all water damage will be covered by your policy.
  4. Sometimes insurance carriers are unwilling to cover all the water mitigation and extraction work required to prevent or remove mold growth in a home affected by water damage which not only causes financial damage but also poses a genuine health risk. These are very serious consequences that should be dealt with immediately. If your insurance company is hesitating to pay you for a water damage, you can hire a public adjuster to advocate for you and for the reasonable expenses of the restoration.
  5. Hiring a public adjuster is a good idea anyway. The adjuster who works for the insurance company represents their interests, not yours. They usually try to minimize the settlement amount to save the insurance carrier some money. This can result in a smaller payout on your claim.

How To Deep Clean Your Bathroom | TMG Companies

How To Deep Clean Your Bathroom | TMG Companies

Bathrooms are where the cleaning challenges can really get tough. There are so many surfaces: chrome, brass, glass, porcelain, fiberglass … plus a wide variety of soils: hard water deposits, soap film, rust stains and mildew, not to mention germs. An assortment of effective cleaning products is available for these jobs.

Rinse the tub after each use to keep soap film and hard water deposits from forming. Keep a small sponge handy for wiping down the tub walls after bathing. Use a towel or a squeegee on shower walls. Dry faucets and handles to prevent water spots.

Keep shower doors and curtains open after use to allow them to air dry and prevent mildew. If mildew does appear, use liquid household bleach or cleaners with bleach to remove stains.

Use a daily shower cleaner to keep shower and tub surfaces free of soap scum, mildew stains and hard water deposits. Mist surfaces right after showering while the walls are wet and warm – no rinsing, wiping or scrubbing is necessary. For best results, start with a clean shower. Check label directions to be sure the product is suitable for your bathtub/shower surface.
To clean vertical surfaces where cleaners can run off quickly (bathtubs, showers, toilet bowls), spray foams and thick liquids are effective.
Consider using a disinfectant cleaner for toilet bowls, tubs and showers.
Only products that have an EPA registration number on the label have met government requirements for killing germs. It’s important to follow label instructions to be sure you are getting the germ-killing benefits.
Avoid using products containing bleach to remove rust stains as they may intensify the color. Use only a rust remover for such stains.

Bathtub and Sinks

For stubborn stains or soap film buildup, allow the cleaner to thoroughly penetrate the soil, then rub or scour.

Shower

Glass shower doors and mirrors require non-streaking cleaning products for best results.

Toilet

Interior are susceptible to the buildup of hard water deposits. Use a long-handled toilet brush to clean the rim holes and as far into the trap as possible.
Exteriors can be scratched.
Plastic toilet seats can be scratched.
Thoroughly rinse and dry hinge areas and bumpers.

Post Holiday Clean Up 101 | TMG Companies

Post Holiday Clean Up 101 | TMG Companies

You blinked and the holidays are over. The dust settles, and you finally have some time to breathe, but now it is time to clean up all the post-holiday things. But where to start? It can get overwhelming thinking about where to begin especially when you start to think about all the areas of the home that have been in overdrive. Did you cook holiday dinner or bake cookies and holiday treats? Then your kitchen is due for a deep clean. Did you spend a lot of time in the living room hosting friends & family, watching holiday movies with the family, or opening presents? You living room has probably seen more action than normal and needs a refresh.

Here are some tips to help get your home back in order after a busy holiday season:

Declutter

We all tend to accumulate stuff during the holiday season. And while it is always great to give gifts, it isn’t always so great to find your kitchen full of used storage containers, your trash bins full of waste, and your storage areas full of unwanted decorations and odds-’n-ends.

But decluttering doesn’t just mean throwing everything out the door. It means lightening your load and preparing for warmer weather. When decluttering, think lighter:

  1. Get rid of all your trash, including all the wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows that you don’t need. You don’t need to prepare for next year’s Christmas before the new year.
  2. Return any old food containers left over from parties. You don’t need them, and you don’t want them. If the original owner refuses (or continually forgets) to take them, then trash or donate them.
  3. Store your decorations, tree, and other holiday items correctly, and put them away no later than 18 days after Christmas. That includes exterior lights and law decorations.

Finally, give your home items a good once over to assess if there is anything that could be donated or thrown away. The new year is a time for declutter and rebirth, so take the opportunity after the holidays to clear the decks.

Kitchen Appliances

You’ve held your parties, you’ve cooked for company, and you’ve baked dozens of cakes, pies, and cookies. Now it is time to step back from the festivities and deep clean your kitchen.

After all that cooking, take time to clean out all your appliances. This includes

  • The inside of your refrigerator and freezer.
  • The external parts of your mixers and blenders.
  • The interior and exterior of your oven and dishwasher.
  • The sink, including the under-sink area.
  • The interior and exterior of your cabinets and drawers.

You can use a disinfecting cleaner or a basic mix of baking soda, vinegar, and water. There are also several natural cleaners that can provide the level of cleanliness and odor protection you need. We normally try to avoid harsh cleaning chemicals on any surface.

In any case, scrub all these surfaces down. You don’t want to come across food stains or worse a month down the road. Take the opportunity to make your kitchen new and feel good again.

Upholstery and Furniture

You and your family have been sitting on your furniture all winter. And, if you’ve hosted during the holidays, it’s been more than just your family. And let’s not even get into pet odors.

It’s time to get your upholstery cleaned.

In all honesty, this is something you should do 1-2 times a year at minimum, so post-holiday season is usually a great time to do it. Since your windows have been most likely shut against the cold for months, with the heater running, and your family (and any party guests) regularly in residence, your furniture will most likely need cleaned.

For DIY, you can

  • Vacuum all your fabric furniture. This will help remove any errant dirt, hair, and stains.
  • Spot clean any stains. Long-lasting wine or grape stains probably won’t come out after the fact, but it doesn’t hurt to try and remove some dirt beforehand.
  • Spray with a mixture of water and essential oils. Using diluted essential oils can freshen up fabrics before they are cleaned and keep your living and entertaining spaces smelling pleasant. We recommend fresh and clean scents like mint, lemon, or fresh herbs.

Of course, you should also call your furniture cleaning specialist. They can help get smells and stains out of your furniture and keep it fresh for the upcoming spring.

Area Rugs

Like furniture, area rugs are going to accumulate stains, dirt, and odor. And like your furniture, there are a few at-home steps you can take to get them clean.

A simple thing to do is to let them sit outside. Pick a warm day with no rain, and gently shake your rugs out and hang them on a balcony. This will not only remove dust, but also help remove odor. Following that, you can attempt to clean the rug yourself (and it helps if the rug is washable). However, washing and cleaning can be hard on your rug if you don’t have the right equipment.

Have You Cleaned Your Kitchen Cabinets Recently? | TMG Companies

Have You Cleaned Your Kitchen Cabinets Recently? | TMG Companies

When was the last time you cleaned your kitchen cabinets? Everything in the kitchen gets regularly cleaned except the kitchen cabinets. You always wash your countertop, sink, stove, and the rest of the kitchen. One reason we hear was that the kitchen cabinets don’t get as dirty as the rest of the kitchen. Maybe right, but the cabinet, like any part of the house, needs a deep clean, even in a low-maintenance kitchen. How often? At least every six months for deep cleaning to avoid grease and dirt accumulation and a quick weekly touch-up on regular bases.

Before you clean your kitchen cabinets, first you must know some basic things about kitchen cabinets. Not all cabinets are created the same. Some cabinets are painted, others are not. Some cabinets have fancy knobs or handle; some don’t have one. Either way, you must be careful. The kitchen gets greasy and dirty most of the time from the cooking steam. The oil particles travel in the air and stick on the surface of the cabinets. Also, the handprints that we add during cooking. The amount of dirt from our hands while cooking transfers from cabinet to cabinet. And the handles get sticky and dirty.

With that said, let’s start with touch-up cleaning: (Once a week)

  1. Prepare the sink with warm water and a few drops of dishwashing soap.
  2. Use a terry towel cleaning cloth because it can remove the sticky dirt on the cabinet doors and handles.
  3. Have a dry microfiber cleaning towel ready to dry the cabinets.
  4. Grab a ladder to reach the top part of the cabinets.
  5. Submerge the terry towel in the water solution and wring it.
  6. Fold in two and use the ladder to reach the top part of the cabinets.
  7. Work one cabinet at a time. Start from the top left right left, making a zigzag back and forth.
  8. Use the dry microfiber to dry each cabinet. Use your hand to feel the surface.

This touch-up cleaning must be done regularly to lessen your time doing the cabinet deep cleaning.

For heavy deep cleaning of the cabinets:

  1. Add a degreaser and small toothbrush to your list of supplies.
  2. First, clean the cabinet using the touch-up method. Remember, do not soak the cabinets in water or cleaning solution. You must be careful with the cleaning to protect the paint and/or the cabinet’s finish.
    • The small toothbrush is for door handles, small tight areas, or crevices.
    • Do not let the water stick onto the hinges; have a dry microfiber towel ready for drips.
  3. Use the degreaser to remove the grease.
  4. Place towels on the floors to protect the kitchen floors.
  5. Spray the product directly into the cabinets and pay extra attention to the amount coming out from the sprayer. Make sure not to soak the cabinet.
  6. Wipe top to bottom using the sponge this time.
  7. For deep cleaning, the sponge is a good tool. It can absorb the degreaser better than the terry towel.
  8. To avoid spreading the grease, no zigzag wiping here. Straight top-down motion with the sponge.
  9. Once the grease residue is gone. Rinse the cabinets using the cleaning towel, submerge the towel in warm water, wring dry the towel, and wipe each cabinet to remove the degreaser remnant.
  10. Lastly, dry each cabinet.

Protect your cabinet from grease and dirt. Do not skip the regular touch-up cleaning, do the once or twice-a-year deep cleaning.

Start The Year Off With A Strong Cleaning Schedule | TMG Companies

As we enter 2023 now is the time to start resolutions and find ways to sustain them. Getting on a cleaning schedule early in the year can help you maintain your household, especially when you hit those busy spring and summer months.

The key to a clean house is finding a system that works for you and your schedule. What worked before you had kids may need some modifications. And empty nesters may have a busier schedule than before the days of carpools and kids sports.

Cluttered Kitchen? Just Say No It’s tempting to let the dishes "soak" while you relax after dinner, but you have to do them anyway so why wait. Put the dishes in the dishwasher, wash the pots and pans and wipe the counters and table after every meal. This keeps dishes from piling up and minimizes bugs.

Quick Pick Up before Bed Don’t let the clutter pile up. As you turn out the lights and head to bed grab the toys, magazines, remotes and put them in their place.

One Chore a Day Make a list of the chores you need to complete and choose one to do each day. There are lots of ready-made lists online, but success lies in modifying the list to your lifestyle and activities.

EASY CLEANING SCHEDULE:

Monday Laundry (change sheets, wash & dry)
Tuesday Laundry (fold and put away)
Wednesday Kitchen (floors, microwave, refrigerator)
Thursday Vacuum & Dust
Friday Trash, Bathrooms
Saturday Meal Planning (stick to the list when shopping!), Yard Work
Sunday Rest

Clean Your Fridge Like A Pro | TMG Companies

Clean Your Fridge Like A Pro | TMG Companies

The refrigerator is one of your house’s most used and abused appliances. It is constantly being open and closed. During holidays, it is packed. Sometimes, even on regular days, the fridge is always full. But be honest,  how bad are you at neglecting my fridge. Most homeowners hardly do the proper care to maintain this helpful appliance. So before you fill your fridge up with all the holiday fixings here are some tips to properly care and clean your fridge.

  1. Gather the tools for the task before you start cleaning. You will need the following; trash bag, recycle bin, dry microfiber cleaning cloth, dish soap, baking soda, warm water, sponge, cooler (if deep cleaning), and small toothbrush for the hard-to-reach crevices (bleach or vinegar optional) and vacuum with a brush. I love using the vacuum to capture the small food debris in hard-to-reach corners.
  2. First, you have to unplug the refrigerator. Use the vacuum brush to clean the coils, drip pan, and the panel in front of the refrigerator. Next, empty the fridge. The frozen food should go to the cooler. While removing the food, check for expiration. Discard the old and expired. Use the recycle bin for the expired condiment and the garbage bag for the non-recyclable items.
  3. Once the fridge is empty, remove the shelves. Use warm water and dish soap to clean the refrigerator. Submerge the sponge in the solution and wipe the inside of the fridge from top to bottom. Wash the removable shelves using the water and soap solution from the sink. Loosen any hardened food stain using the sponge or the small brush. Rinse with fresh warm water using the sponge. Dry the refrigerator using a microfiber cleaning cloth. Replace the old baking soda with a new, freshly open box.
  4. To finish up, clean the top of the refrigerator and the front. Pay extra attention to the door handle. Use a damp, wet microfiber cleaning cloth to remove the dirt. Plug the refrigerator and return the food. Now you have a happy refrigerator.
